With Bill 21, the title of psychologist is protected, as is psychotherapy, which has become an activity reserved for psychologists, physicians and holders of permits from the Ordre des psychologues du Québec.
Psychologists must complete a doctorate including courses on theoretical models, ethics and deontology, and nearly 2,000 hours of supervised internship.
The title and actions of life coaches are not defined or supervised, which can generate challenges and sometimes risks.

CVOID-19: Psychological impacts and effects of confinement
Psychologist Myra Gravel Crevier collaborated on an article for Transport Routier magazine.
The impact of confinement may depend, among other things, on the individual's life context (e.g., employed, unemployed, living alone versus with family), and personality (e.g., anxious vulnerability, difficulty with solitude).
To promote adaptation and resilience, people could focus their energy where they have control (e.g., their attitude, the way they experience their confinement and make sense of their experience).
It makes sense to get back into a routine, especially with children, and set small, realistic goals for each day.
Social movements like rainbows build resilience in the face of adversity and a sense of solidarity.
CVOID-19: Psychological impacts and effects of confinement
COVID-19 and anxiety: How can we talk to our children and reassure them?
The answer: Yes, it's important to talk to children, especially those of school age.
Start with what the child already knows, and answer his or her questions and fears.
Adopt clear, reassuring language and behaviors that encourage caution rather than hypervigilance (e.g., when returning from an outing, wash your hands comparatively well, change your clothes and take a shower).
Reassure the child to reassure him and re-establish a sense of trust in his environment.
At present, voluntary isolation at home is favored, and parents can try as best they can to carry out activities at home and regain a certain form of routine that helps their children.
Publication of 2 book chapters
The book "Les fondements de la psychologie de couple" is now available.
The latter will be used as a reference book in courses on couple psychology in the doctoral program in psychology.
The first chapter focuses on communication, problem-solving and marital satisfaction.
The second chapter focuses on marital functioning and mental health disorders, including anxiety disorders.

Fundamentals of couple psychology
Psychologist Myra Gravel Crevier participated in an authors’ collective for a manual on the foundations and issues of couples and couple psychotherapy. She has written two chapters, one on communication, problem-solving and marital satisfaction, the other on marital functioning and mental health.
Please note that the Laval Anxiety Clinic does not offer couple psychotherapy. On the other hand, the impact of anxiety issues on the couple and its functioning can be addressed in individual psychotherapy.
This manual is currently used as a reference book for students in university psychology courses, mental health professionals, couples and people interested in these issues. Enjoy your reading!
