Everyone has experienced stress or anxiety at some point in their lives. Anxiety can manifest itself in different ways for different people (worry, apprehension, stomach aches, sweating, etc.) and is linked to specific life events such as an important exam, an interview, job loss or the death of a loved one. Anxiety symptoms then resolve themselves and are normal bodily reactions.
Conversely, an anxiety disorder is present if these symptoms take a long time to resolve, if they appear at any time for no apparent reason, and if the level of anxiety is such as to prevent the individual from functioning normally on a day-to-day basis.
