Learn more about cognitive therapy

How do I know if cognitive behavioural therapy or another related approach is right for me?

When a customer calls the Clinique d’anxiété de Laval, a telephone pre-assessment is carried out to check whether the problem presented corresponds to what the team is able to treat. If this is not the case, the person will be redirected to an appropriate resource.

What are the first encounters with a psychologist or doctoral student in clinical psychology like?

First, the psychologist or doctoral student carries out a psychological assessment to gain a clear understanding of the client’s problem, needs and expectations. The therapy objectives and treatment plan are then presented to the client. The latter is free to give or withhold his consent.

What makes psychotherapy successful?

Although the effectiveness of the cognitive-behavioral approach has been demonstrated in numerous clinical studies, particularly in the treatment of anxiety disorders, no guarantee of success can be given. Customer motivation plays a major role in the results obtained. The relationship of trust between the psychologist or doctoral student in psychology and his or her client is also a key factor in the success of psychotherapy.
